Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, Kenya to the southwest, and the Indian Ocean to the east. It has the longest coastline on mainland Africa, which stretches along the Indian Ocean, making it historically important for trade. Somalia is known for its rich cultural heritage, deeply influenced by its nomadic traditions, Islamic faith, and its strategic location as a gateway between Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
The capital city, Mogadishu, is a historic port city that has been a center of trade and culture for centuries. Despite its vibrant past, Somalia has faced decades of civil war, political instability, and challenges from militant groups like al-Shabaab. However, recent efforts toward rebuilding and governance have shown promise in parts of the country. Somalia is ethnically homogenous, with Somalis forming the vast majority of the population, and Somali and Arabic being the official languages. Islam, specifically Sunni Islam, is the dominant religion.
