Human mobility and displacement in the IGAD region, comprising countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda, are driven by conflict, political instability, climate change, and economic hardships. Millions have been displaced due to ongoing conflicts in South Sudan, Somalia, and Sudan, while droughts and floods exacerbate displacement, especially in pastoralist communities. IGAD plays a key role in addressing these challenges through initiatives like the Regional Migration Policy Framework and the Drought Resilience Initiative, but issues such as underfunding, security concerns, and climate resilience remain significant obstacles to sustainable solutions.
